COVID-19 Safety Plan

Sunday, May 16th & Monday, May 17th

 

Key Updates:

  • 2021 AOMM will be a NO SPECTATOR event.
  • ALL riders, staff, volunteers, marshals, SAG drivers, Radio Guys, bus drivers, etc. WILL BE REQUIRED to sign a COVID waiver.

 

Sunday, May 16th – PACKET PICK UP

Packet Pickup – Spartanburg Auditorium

  • All staff and volunteers will wear masks and gloves (gloves will be changed out every 15-20 minutes).
  • Signage will be displayed to remind everyone entering the auditorium that masks are required.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be positioned at entry and exit points.
  • A holding area will exist outside the entry point (there will be one clearly marked entry and exit point).
    • Stanchions will be used to create the line for the holding area.
    • Markers will assist in keeping people 6 feet apart while in line.
    • The starting point will begin outside the entry doors to auditorium and will weave around the circular drive and grassy area inside circle.
  • Packet pickup stations will be single tables spaced 6 feet apart and individually numbered throughout the space.
    • There will be one staff person per table, and only one rider may check in at a table at a time.
    • Hand sanitizer will be placed on each table.
    • Volunteer/Staff will direct each rider from the holding area to the appropriately numbered table where they can pick up their packets.
    • All packets will be staged behind individual tables
  • The truck loading area where riders can drop their clothing bags will be moved to a new designated spot in the parking lot.
    • Riders can drop bags with the staff member or volunteer in the truck. No rider should enter the trucks.
  • There will be no expo.

 

Monday, May 17th – RIDE DAY

Starting Line – Spartanburg Auditorium

  • Late packet pickup will be available starting at 5 am. (See previous Packet Pickup section for details.)
  • ALL RIDERS MUST WEAR A MASK TO START THE RIDE. Riders will be allowed to remove their mask at the 1:00 mark on the countdown clock. This will be done at the riders own discretion.
  • Riders will be organized into rows at the start line and spaced 6 feet apart. Each row will start together when instructed by a staff member.

Rest Stops – Along Route

  • All volunteers will wear masks and gloves.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available.
  • Water station monitor(s) will be present at each rest stop, and a designated individual will fill riders’ water bottles. Riders must open and hold their bottles in order for the monitor to refill them.
  • Pre-packaged food and drinks will be available in single-serve units.

SAG Vehicles – Along Route

  • All SAG drivers will wear masks and gloves when they have riders in their vehicles.
  • Hand sanitizer and sanitizing spray will be available to riders upon entering SAG vehicles.

Buses – Summit of Mitchell & Tom Johnson Campground

  • All drivers will wear masks.
  • Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided at the door.
  • Windows will be dropped (weather permitting) to allow for additional ventilation.
  • Only one rider per seat will be permitted. Riders will be asked to wear masks, once they are comfortable with their recovery.

Marion Finish – Tom Johnson Campground

  • There will be no spectators.
  • Riders will receive grab-and-go meal options. No buffet meal will be served.
  • Tables and chairs will be spaced appropriately so riders have a designated area to wait to board buses for their rides.
  • Bike Handlers will wear gloves and masks (changed every 15 minutes).
  • All bikes handed over to bike handlers will be sanitized at their final destination prior to being picked back up by the rider.
  • Restrooms will be opened.
  • Signage will be strategically placed to promote social distancing and mask wearing. (Since the event is outside, these precautions will not be mandatory).
  • All staff, volunteers and bus drivers will wear masks.

Mitchell Finish – Summit of Mt Mitchell

  • There will be no spectators.
  • Pre-packaged, individually wrapped grab-and-go options will be available for riders. No open meal will be served.
  • Restrooms and changing stations will be open. Markers will be placed in line to assist with 6-foot social distancing.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be placed outside restrooms and changing stations.
  • Bike Handlers will wear gloves and masks (changed every 15 minutes).
  • All bikes handed over to bike handlers will be sanitized at their final destination prior to being picked back up by the rider.
  • Signage will be strategically placed to encourage social distancing and mask wearing. (Since the event is outside, social distancing will not be required unless it is mandated by the State of NC).
  • Riders will be loaded onto buses after bikes have been turned over and they are finished with restroom/changing stations.
  • All staff, volunteers and bus drivers will wear masks.
